A selection of four details reproduced from Barbara Cooney’s original paintings for Miss Rumphius. Cooney spent summers in Maine beginning at a young age and moved here full-time in the 1980s. Awarded the Caldecott Medal twice for distinguished children’s books, Cooney received an honorary degree from Bowdoin College in 1996. She donated the paintings for her iconic illustrated book, Miss Rumphius, to the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in 2000.
